I know there is so much judgement in pregnancy, motherhood and just being a women in general. BUT guess what I don’t care. I am sharing my journey and part of that is staying active and working out while pregnant. I want to share what I have been doing to stay active.
**Everything I do is approved by my doctor, every pregnancy and person is different so always speak directly to your doctor**
I do a lot of walks, I try to do at least 4 a week about 1.5 miles each. It has been very hot in Texas lately so the walks can be a little more difficult to complete outside. The heat has really effected me, it slows me down and causes me to need to stop faster than normal. That is totally ok. I listen to my body and always have water with me.
I have done 28 days of Barre3. Barre is a combination of dance, pilates, yoga and muscle isolation that is a great low impact workout that everyone should try. It offers a lot of modifications for every level including pregnancy.
I am currently doing a 30 day push up challenge and focusing on weight training. Mixing it up and keeping it challenging on my body is helping me to stay active and motivated through this journey.
My focus is keeping my breathing strong and my body in the best shape I can so my delivery and postpartum go smoothly.
Getting back into a consistent workout routine has been wonderful, even it I really didn’t take any time off. The stress relief, sweat and over all feeling after a great workout really makes me feel amazing as part of my over all mental health.
I have been doing virtual spin classes, TRX, weights, cardio and yoga. I really like to mix things up and not do the same thing everyday. It is also better for your body to keep it guessing and keep the changes coming. Your body will get used to the same thing over and over; making the results much less apparent if at all. This is where a lot of people plateau, get discouraged and quit.
DON’T QUIT, try something new. Is there a class you have always wanted to try? Do it. If your gym doesn’t have classes or you workout at home use the internet. Google free workout videos, search for different combos online there are so many things to choose from. You can try one of the combos under the Home Workouts section of my blog. If you normally hike or run try mixing in some weight training. Cardio is great but you need to build that muscle to keep changing and burning.
Whatever it is don’t be afraid to try something new. You never know what you will fall in love with or really give you a great workout.
Welcome to my home gym! I used to only workout at home. That is actually where I lost my most weight and really began to change my lifestyle. I have slowly added to my gym over the years.
I have a treadmill, which I got as a Christmas gift in high school! It was the only thing I wanted that year, little did my parent’s know I would still be using it 12 years later. Definitely got their monies worth. It has been through many moves with me and the screen display doesn’t work anymore but that doesn’t matter because I can use my phone for tracking.
I have a weight bench that you can lift to multiple positions for different exercises. I also have a set of free weights starting at 12lbs going up to 45lbs. I don’t use a lot of the higher weights but my husband does.
I recently got a weight machine for Christmas that I can do 6+ exercises on including legs. This is a great piece if you are looking for the most bang for your buck and have limited space.
I have miscellaneous items as well including ankle/wrist weights, weighted ball, barre ball, bands, mats and more.
All of my equipment is located in our loft that gives me a lot of space to spread out for floor work, yoga and more. I also have a TV to allow for some black noise in the background. It’s good for me because I can exercise while watching my favorite shows and before I know it I have knocked out an hour workout.
What do you have at home? You don’t need much to get started.
January I have been doing all morning workouts and it has been great. I plan to keep this schedule up. I do spinning, barre, yoga and strength training. This allows me more time after work for spending time doing other things or use my home gym in the afternoons.
Spinning is something I started doing in October when I first visited B Well Health & Fitness, here in Boerne, it always leaves me sweaty and feeling great. Each class is different and challenging. I am really trying to get to a place where I can do more weight on the bike. Check out their website and book your class today https://bwellhealthandfitness.com/
Barre is a great class that really isolates muscles that can change your shape. Every time I feel like I find a new muscle that leaves me shaking. I love it, if you haven’t tried a Barre work out you really need to. It is low impact and a great class to start your fitness journey.
Yoga is one of my favorite things that allows me to focus on my breath and really stretching my muscles. I am always surprised at the poses and balance I have. I am really trying to get some more advanced poses under my belt, so here’s to practice.
Strength and weights are something that is a push for me. I don’t have the most upper body strength so using the weights to really push my arms, shoulders and back. I can really see a difference in my shoulders and arms when I look in the mirror so hopefully with consistency the changes will continue.
I will share my home gym with you in an upcoming post. What are some of your favorite group workout classes?
