Morning Routine

Since moving to McKinney my morning routine has changed in many ways. I no longer have to commute into an office for work, I work remote in my home office, so it has allowed for some changes.

I cannot get up without 8 legs running in front of me down the stairs so that is actually the first thing I do, let the dogs out and feed them, after all they are more important than anyone else in the house. Once I feed them I make my one cup of coffee for the day, ugh only one cup I know but I am trying to cut back my caffeine intake. I get asked a lot too but I drink my coffee black or with a splash of almond milk. (Most of the sugar and unnecessary calories are in the creamer/sugar so cut it out)

After my cup of coffee I go back upstairs and brush my teeth to try my best to keep that coffee color off my teeth. I also wash my face and put on my collagen cream & vitamin c oil. Then it’s back to the kitchen for an 8oz glass of green juice and vitamins. I do not have a juicer so I get pre made juices, I have tried many different brands and I just make sure that the ingredients are all fruits & vegetables, no concentrates or fake stuff. As I am drinking my green juice I am working in my office and getting a plan set out for the day with my to do list.

I normally have a smoothie, cereal, yogurt or bar for breakfast. My breakfast is usually a smaller mean because the juice really does fill me up for awhile. After the juice it’s water water water for the rest of the day.

This is my morning routine and I love it. I love it because my body knows what to expect and keeping a routine has really changed my skin, hair, nails and digestion. It keeps everything smooth and regular, my skin has never looked better. A routine is not only great for physical health but also mental health. It keeps me moving and my body going.

I asked other people what the 3 must dos are for them every morning and I loved the responses here were some of them

  • Coffee
  • Vitamins
  • Wash face
  • Check the weather
  • Drink water
  • Watch the news
  • Drink a shake
  • Feed pets

Its kinda of fun to see that so many people have similar routines or needs in the morning. It also makes me see even more how our bodies all need similar things nutrition and love being important in the morning. Share with us what your morning routing is.

Hutchins BBQ

Since we moved to McKinney we had been told by multiple people to try Hutchins BBQ. So we headed that way on a Saturday night and I am so glad we did. We went at a great time and the line was hardly anything. (We have heard it can get pretty long) The smell was so inviting and as you are ordering they slice the meat fresh in front of you and you can see all the different cuts and types to choose from. You then walk through a bar of side dishes and meet the cashier. They run this line very smoothly and efficiently so you aren’t waiting long. However make sure to plan ahead you don’t want to get there and they are out of your favorite type of meat.

I was so excited to sit down and eat. I had pulled pork and brisket with macaroni & cheese with coleslaw. The meat was tender and melted in my mouth. The macaroni and coleslaw were delicious compliments to the meat, they weren’t too saucy and runny or over dressed. It was for sure the best bbq I had ever had. I would go back everyday if it wouldn’t go strait to my waste line. 🙂

The atmosphere was great. Very casual with lots of seating, tons of condiments and great desert choices. The desert is no extra charge just enjoy, if you can after all of that bbq! Make sure to head over if you haven’t yet and if you are visiting it is a must go for lunch or dinner. You can even get family meals to take home for the whole fam.

Bonnie Wenk Nature Trail

I love to hike and explore the parks and trails near us. We have been wanting to try some since we moved and finally found the time over the weekend. We took the dogs and went to Bonnie Wenk Nature Trail. It was close by and had great rating/reviews.

It is still under some construction but the main path is open as well as the restrooms, playground and dog park. The trail is great because it is wide, paved and clean. This allows plenty of room for people to pass by without disturbing each other. The full trail is 4.5 miles but it is not a loop. We did about 2 miles total with the dogs. When I walk on my own I go much faster and farther but the dogs are little slow and their short legs get tired. They need their exercise too so it was a great time to all be together outdoors and get some exercise.

There is great scenery and large open spaces. The dog park looked well maintained but very busy when we were there. All the facilities were new and still well kept, the playground looked like great fun. (Even for me)

I would definitely recommend this area for families, runners, bikers and walkers/joggers. The path is great for strollers, wheelchairs, young children, dogs and beginners. We will go back for sure.

Exploring Downtown McKinney

Before we relocated to McKinney I heard about the adorable down town area. So I looked it up on Instagram and began following to learn about the shops, restaurants and happenings. The photos looked so inviting and I couldn’t want to get out and walk around. What a perfect time too? The holiday season makes everything better. We went one evening and got coffee and walked around looking at the lights.

They really did a great job decorating for the holidays and all the shops had window displays. They do a contest to vote for the best and I couldn’t choose, I think I voted for like 7 of them! They all were so beautiful and creative. We read some of the menus and took note of some restaurants we want to try.

About a week later I was able to meet a friend and try one of the cute places. We went to Layered. I loved the decor and wall coverings, the textures and calm vibe was really welcoming. I had a almond milk latte and my friend and I chatted for awhile. I had to get back to work so I didn’t eat but I can’t wait to go back. The service was great and it would be a quick place to run in a grab a coffee or tea on the way to work or meeting as well.

I can’t wait to try more places!

Go To Treadmill Workout

After getting the home gym set up in our new place I was ready to get my sweat going. Below is my go to Treadmill workout.

5 minutes walking medium speed ( I wear ankle weights and a waste trainer to add sweat)

25-40 squats (depending on your level)

5 minutes on treadmill up your speed

15-20 lunges each leg (depending on your speed)

5 minutes on treadmill up your speed

25-40 sit ups (depending on your level)

5 minutes on treadmill up your speed

25-40 squats (depending on your level)

5 minutes on treadmill up your speed

15-20 lunges each leg (depending on your level)

5 minutes on treadmill lower your speed for cool down

25-40 sit ups (depending on your level)

This is a great way to get a good cardio and full body strength workout in. A lot of people have a hard time staying on a treadmill for long periods of time, this gives you quick on and off so your time goes by quickly and before you know it your workout is over. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

House Happenings

So I have been MIA with my posts lately and I am sorry. Sometimes life gets in the way and before I know it it’s a month later. Let’s start with some House Happenings.

We are excited to be relocating VERY soon! Our house went on the market September 1 and I wasn’t really thinking it would go quickly, people told me it would but what do they know lol. I really didn’t think we would be in a new house for the holidays! So all of a sudden our house was under contract and we needed to find our new dream home asap. I am glad to say that under pressure things worked out and we were able to find our new house.

With that being said my free time has been taken up by cleaning out, cleaning up and packing. I don’t like to wait until the last minute for things. We have moved 6 other times together in (8 years) so I know my way around what needs to be done. I start by cleaning out every closet, cabinet, drawer and room of anything we don’t need or want any more. (Including furniture) I sell some and donate the rest.

Then I start by packing all of the framed photos and decor throughout the house. You don’t need these things for daily living and it eliminates so much! As I seal each box I label it and then take it out to the garage. Getting the boxes out of the way helps keep you organized and know what is left to pack. After decor I start with the closets and cabinets in rooms other than the kitchen and bedrooms, usually coat closets, dvd cabinets etc. Making sure the label and move the boxes as I finish. While doing this if we find more to get rid of we do! Next we do the bathrooms and bedrooms that aren’t being used, leaving just our clothes, bathroom & kitchen. This is where we are now.

Once I get to this point I start deep cleaning the house, scrubbing base boards, cleaning out the fridge, cleaning all closet shelves and walls that you can get to. After all the deep cleaning then I get everything in the garage boxed up and cleaned out. Now I am ready to enjoy the last few days in our house and won’t feel rushed to pack our clothes and kitchen. (I also have already packed up everything in the kitchen that we don’t use daily such as serving dishes, mixers, appliances etc.)

So as you can see I have been busy. 🙂 I also had jury duty and work full time. Plan ahead and it isn’t so bad.
