I don’t know why it took us so long to go check out Town Lake Recreation Area, it’s just down the road and we have driven by so many times saying we need to check it out. So finally, we made it. It is just across from the high school and easily accessible off of 75.
The lake is large with fountains, fishing pier, countless ducks, pavilions, restrooms, water fountains, grills, lighted trails, 18 hole frisbee golf course, volley ball courts, horse shoe pitching courts and playgrounds. I mean what more could you want! Its a great family park with something to do for everyone.
We walked over 3 miles enjoying all of the scenery and wildlife. I definitely recommend planning a trip to check it out. The pavilions can be reserved ahead of time for parties.
I will absolutely be adding this to my list of places to walk and recommend to others! Check it out.
I am so excited to share about the Just Strong clothing brand. I have been trying out their gear and I truly love the pieces. The fabric is breathable, supportive and durable. The designs are motivating and great looking on the clothes. They are about empowering women and pushing though not only your strength battles but every battles in life and just supporting each other and moving forward.
The symbol – the squat.
“The squat is the perfect analogy for life – it’s about standing back up after something heavy gets you down and what better way to present this analogy by using it in our branding. We are here to empower and motivate strong women from every walk of life.”
They have some fun tanks and t’s with great sayings and quotes such as “Will Gym For Pizza” so true and fun. They have different cuts and styles of leggings and sports bras for the many different body types. I truly recommend you give them a try.

We have continued to explore the parks and trails near us and we recently visited Erwin Park a couple times. It is very natural and offers lots of trains and picnic areas with plenty of parking. We tried out several different trails and really enjoyed them all. I will say they are not really marked so be careful when you start some of them they don’t loop around and go for a couple miles.
This hills offer a great workout and beautiful views.
I use the Endomondo App so luckily I can see on a map where we went and are able to decide what we want to do. I recommend using something like this on trails you don’t know.
I was also able to try out some new workout gear from Just Strong. I really liked the fabric and the quality while hiking. I didn’t have to pull up or readjust my leggings or sports bra (which can be very annoying while trying to be active) I would recommend giving them a try and use the code WYNNSPARKS10 for a discount at checkout. http://www.juststrong.com
I love the writing and the look. Give them a try!
We went for a family hike at Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The area offers many different trails, some paved and some more natural. This allows for different levels to enjoy, bikes and dogs welcome. The Sunday we went it had recently rained and several trails were flooded, so keep that in mind if you are planning a trip. There is plenty of parking, restrooms and trashcans. Since it was a nice weekend afternoon there were quit a few people there and it didn’t feel crowded. There are so many different options that you can enjoy your time and not be in a crowd.
The area also has a team building ropes course, which I would love to do! If anyone in the area is interested you can find it online to book your time. There is also an amphitheater where they do some great shows. (schedule also online)
We will definitely go back and explore more, we walked about 3 miles and the dogs had a blast. There are creeks, hills, trees galore and so much to see. It is a must for anyone who loves to hike or walk. I can’t wait to see the area in the summer with all of the trees filled in and plants full.
I love to hike and explore the parks and trails near us. We have been wanting to try some since we moved and finally found the time over the weekend. We took the dogs and went to Bonnie Wenk Nature Trail. It was close by and had great rating/reviews.
It is still under some construction but the main path is open as well as the restrooms, playground and dog park. The trail is great because it is wide, paved and clean. This allows plenty of room for people to pass by without disturbing each other. The full trail is 4.5 miles but it is not a loop. We did about 2 miles total with the dogs. When I walk on my own I go much faster and farther but the dogs are little slow and their short legs get tired. They need their exercise too so it was a great time to all be together outdoors and get some exercise.
There is great scenery and large open spaces. The dog park looked well maintained but very busy when we were there. All the facilities were new and still well kept, the playground looked like great fun. (Even for me)
I would definitely recommend this area for families, runners, bikers and walkers/joggers. The path is great for strollers, wheelchairs, young children, dogs and beginners. We will go back for sure.
I have been staying active and finding some time to sweat everyday weather that is a walk, home workout or group fitness class, even house work. Mixing it up and doing something everyday keeps me feeling energized and my body changing. On mornings when I can’t make it to an early class I love using my home gym to get a great sweat and strength challenge, an evening walk is a great way to get out and enjoy the Texas heat along with a great cardio workout for your body.
Grab some friends and head to a class, go on a walk or put on some head phones and get lost in the music, before you know it you will have completed a great sweat secession for your body.
I also love to hike around the parks, nature centers or preserves near me, most have free entry and allow you to explore while getting in that activity for the day. Free and a fun family workout…how can you say no to that?
One of my favorite things to do is hike or walk a new park or nature area on the weekends. If you knew me when I was younger this could be shocking information. lol It has really become a relaxing experience for me and I feel like I am really experiencing so much more of our world. I love seeing how different each area is even being so close together sometimes.
Just around our home there are so many options for hiking and walking. One of the places I really enjoy is Joshua Springs Park & Preserves. It is just a quick drive north and has a dog park, fishing area, picnic area, play area and trails. It is very well kept and is a great place to spend the day or afternoon. I always love to see the water falls or look through the bird watching buildings to see if I can spot any deer.
We tried a new place recently as well, Kreutzberg Canyon Natural Area. Also just a quick drive away. It offers many trails to choose from and these are more natural and not paved like many are now. I recommend actual hiking shoes or boots for this location. The Guadalupe River runs right through and you can hike along it or take a canoe or kayak. It is animal friendly and also very well kept. With the hills, and natural trail you really get a great workout here while enjoying the hill country views.
Both of these are free! What a great way to get out, get active, enjoy nature and not have to spend any money. Make sure you take your own water to both.
For those of you who are new to the blog, I am from Indiana and we moved to Texas in 2015. I was blessed enough to spend 2 and 1/2 weeks in Indiana in November. I celebrated Thanksgiving and my niece’s first birthday. I enjoyed family time, food, hiking, play time and my high school friends.
One of my favorite things about going back is the small town I grew up in, believe me at the time I didn’t appreciate it then, but now when I get to visit I love that I know someone everywhere I go. It take just 5 minutes to get to my friends house and I get to eat at all of my favorite places. My sister and her family live in the house I grew up in and that is such a blessing. My niece is growing up in the room my sister and I shared as little girls. We didn’t always share it the best but we are closer than ever now. It is so amazing to see my baby sister being a mom, she is the best and my niece is very blessed. Her dad is pretty awesome too. We celebrated Thanksgiving at their house, which also happened to be Kylie’s first birthday. It was a wonderful day full of laughing and eating. Kylie loved all of the singing for her.
My sister and I took Kylie on a 3 mile walk around the house. We enjoyed some beautiful sunny time in November. We also went to Houston Woods State Park and hiked all over. Kylie slept most of the time so we had some fun being creative with our photos. We also got to see some gorgeous animals they have rescued. Being outside is so amazing, I didn’t appreciate it when I was younger, my family will attest to that, but now I love to hike and see what all nature has to offer. I will still freak out about bugs though so be on the look out. 🙂
It was wonderful to spend some time with my brother as well. He is hard to track down with his crazy travel schedule for his job, but when we are in town he always makes time to laugh with us.
There is so much I could share but the only part I cared about was spending time with my family. I wish I could see them everyday, when you get older and move out you really start to realize how lucky you are to grow up with everyone around you all the time.
What are some of your favorite memories with your family?
