It has been really hard for me to find time to myself. I wake up early with my sweet girl, get her ready for the day, take her to school, work all day, pick her up, dinner, bath, evening to do list, bedtime and cleaning. Then do it all again the next day. I totally love this new normal but it can be stressful and hard. I have really let myself go to the side and rarely do anything for me.
I was so excited for Cycelbar McKinney to open up after quarantine that I found a way to try it out. They offered 3 free classes and I took advantage. (If you know me I don’t pass up anything free) My husband stayed with the babe after work so I could do the 45 minute class. The first time it was rough for us both but it was honestly a really good way for him to learn and become more confident as a dad. It allowed him to figure things out without relying on me.
After the 3 free classes I signed up for 4 classes a month so I could go once a week. We have made it a great routine for us. He gets his daddy daughter time and I get a little bit of time alone to do something for myself. It has really helped. I get to relieve some stress and get my body moving.
I am not the top of the class by any means but spin/cycle is my absolute favorite workout so getting back into it has been wonderful. If you are local check them out and come ride with me!

Walking postpartum has really been such a blessing for me. I haven’t been able to consistently find the time yet for workouts so being able to walk with the babe has been keeping me active and getting us both outside. (She loves to be outside)
I try to do 2 miles a day but that is getting very difficult with the Texas heat. She is not a fan and is very hot blooded, we have a fan but it’s not enough. I have to find a time when the temp isn’t too crazy and then it’s as far as we can go, usually just over a mile.
With this goal in mind it has still be so great for my physical and mental health to continue to walk every day. It allows me to feel like I am moving my body and gives me time away from the long to do list that never ends at the house.
Benefits of Walking (A prior post)
Studies show that walking 30 minutes a day can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke by up to 27%. I will take all the help I can get so lets go! Walking uses your entire body and improves circulation which helps control blood pressure and cholesterol. If you are walking outside you will also enjoy the Vitamin D.
Walking is low impact and easy on your joints. You can walk your neighborhood, beach, country side or anywhere at all. Pop in some head phones and enjoy your favorite music and take some me time.
Walking with me is almost like a run, BUT I do NOT run! I walk very fast and with a purpose. You don’t have to do this but it is kinda fun. In the nice weather I take my lunch break and walk around the office buildings, this is an easy way to take a break from work and get in that 30 minutes. It doesn’t have to be hard, make it enjoyable take your kids, pets, family or just go on you own.
Additional benefits are improving your mood, balance, strengthening your bones and muscles. Take advantage of this full body exercise and start with a fun way to begin your healthy lifestyle.
So it’s another new year and time for me to set some focuses. These are the things I want to maintain throughout 2020. Some are the same as other years and some are new.
- Healthy Lifestyle – continuing to focus on health, not just physically but mentally as well. Being a new mom my health and routine for this is year is going to be 100% different.
- Finances – I love to always keep a budget and meet financial goals for my family and our future.
- Mommy Schedule – I want to focus on getting Savannah into a good routine for her and I to make both of us happy and healthy!
- New things – I love to try new things and I want to do more of that. I want to visit new place, restaurants, parks and try it all.
These are my main focuses and goals of the new year. No I am not focusing on a specific weight number because I never care, the number doesn’t matter to me. I am not picking a specific number for finances because things change in an instant and I just want to maintain good progress and moving forward. Since making this a goal about 4 years ago and tracking everything I have been able to pay off student loans, a car and keep my credit card paid off at all times!
I love a focus! What are your goals or resolutions for 2020?
I know there is so much judgement in pregnancy, motherhood and just being a women in general. BUT guess what I don’t care. I am sharing my journey and part of that is staying active and working out while pregnant. I want to share what I have been doing to stay active.
**Everything I do is approved by my doctor, every pregnancy and person is different so always speak directly to your doctor**
I do a lot of walks, I try to do at least 4 a week about 1.5 miles each. It has been very hot in Texas lately so the walks can be a little more difficult to complete outside. The heat has really effected me, it slows me down and causes me to need to stop faster than normal. That is totally ok. I listen to my body and always have water with me.
I have done 28 days of Barre3. Barre is a combination of dance, pilates, yoga and muscle isolation that is a great low impact workout that everyone should try. It offers a lot of modifications for every level including pregnancy.
I am currently doing a 30 day push up challenge and focusing on weight training. Mixing it up and keeping it challenging on my body is helping me to stay active and motivated through this journey.
My focus is keeping my breathing strong and my body in the best shape I can so my delivery and postpartum go smoothly.
July 1 I started a 28 day #barre3anywhere challenge put on by Barre3. This is a nation wide Barre studio that offers online classes as well so you can do them anywhere even if a location isn’t convenient for you. This 28 day challenge involved 6 videos a week and one rest day. The videos ranged in length from 10 minutes to 30 minutes but don’t let that 10 minute number fool you, some of those were the hardest and left me really feeling the shake.
You can really do them anywhere. I did most of the videos on my lunch break in our living room. It was a great break from the computer and re-energized me for the rest of the day.
There are so many variations that no matter what your level or injury status is so you can do these workouts. I did have to do variations since I am pregnant and as the bump grew through the month some of the positions did get a little tricky. It was great to really work on my lower back and leg strength. You can add weights for added strength training for your arms as well.
Check out their website to see if there is a location near you and if not you can sign up for a free online trial and you can do these workouts anywhere. There is no excuse to not give it a try and see the transformation you can make in a short period of time.
I am on day 6 of the Push Up Challenge with Shape! I am loving the exercises and it is so easy to do them on their own or add them into any workout routine you already have. I can already feel soreness in my arms which means my strength is increasing. It’s not too late for you to join in on day 6 or start your own calendar with day 1!
If you have any questions about the exercises let me know!
I don’t know why it took us so long to go check out Town Lake Recreation Area, it’s just down the road and we have driven by so many times saying we need to check it out. So finally, we made it. It is just across from the high school and easily accessible off of 75.
The lake is large with fountains, fishing pier, countless ducks, pavilions, restrooms, water fountains, grills, lighted trails, 18 hole frisbee golf course, volley ball courts, horse shoe pitching courts and playgrounds. I mean what more could you want! Its a great family park with something to do for everyone.
We walked over 3 miles enjoying all of the scenery and wildlife. I definitely recommend planning a trip to check it out. The pavilions can be reserved ahead of time for parties.
I will absolutely be adding this to my list of places to walk and recommend to others! Check it out.
I love reading magazines and I like to take pictures of the fun facts I see inside so I can remember and research more later. So I thought I would share some of them with you.
This may not be right for me, I feel like this seems cold lol I mean maybe while I am sleep and I do think I am happy when I sleep so maybe it is true.
My mom always told me to eat the peel.
I really think this is true! I always feel great when I start working out, give yourself the gift of happiness.
So I missed one the ages already. As I think back 23 was hard, I was out of college and figuring out paying bills and real life. I may not say it was the happiest but I will let you know at 69 how it goes.
I 100% think this is accurate. I mean everyone I talk to is taking time to themselves for self reflection or meditation. There are so many apps now to guide you. Do you meditate?
As a former dancer I love this, I love to dance and the memory skills involved are a great way to exercise the mind. So go do a little dance!
Ok, be honest, who knew this? I am going to try doing it and see if I notice a difference.
I am not a big drinker at all but I find this fact to be very disheartening. I think it is something all women need to be aware of.
What fun facts do you have to share?
