Morning Routine

Since moving to McKinney my morning routine has changed in many ways. I no longer have to commute into an office for work, I work remote in my home office, so it has allowed for some changes.

I cannot get up without 8 legs running in front of me down the stairs so that is actually the first thing I do, let the dogs out and feed them, after all they are more important than anyone else in the house. Once I feed them I make my one cup of coffee for the day, ugh only one cup I know but I am trying to cut back my caffeine intake. I get asked a lot too but I drink my coffee black or with a splash of almond milk. (Most of the sugar and unnecessary calories are in the creamer/sugar so cut it out)

After my cup of coffee I go back upstairs and brush my teeth to try my best to keep that coffee color off my teeth. I also wash my face and put on my collagen cream & vitamin c oil. Then it’s back to the kitchen for an 8oz glass of green juice and vitamins. I do not have a juicer so I get pre made juices, I have tried many different brands and I just make sure that the ingredients are all fruits & vegetables, no concentrates or fake stuff. As I am drinking my green juice I am working in my office and getting a plan set out for the day with my to do list.

I normally have a smoothie, cereal, yogurt or bar for breakfast. My breakfast is usually a smaller mean because the juice really does fill me up for awhile. After the juice it’s water water water for the rest of the day.

This is my morning routine and I love it. I love it because my body knows what to expect and keeping a routine has really changed my skin, hair, nails and digestion. It keeps everything smooth and regular, my skin has never looked better. A routine is not only great for physical health but also mental health. It keeps me moving and my body going.

I asked other people what the 3 must dos are for them every morning and I loved the responses here were some of them

  • Coffee
  • Vitamins
  • Wash face
  • Check the weather
  • Drink water
  • Watch the news
  • Drink a shake
  • Feed pets

Its kinda of fun to see that so many people have similar routines or needs in the morning. It also makes me see even more how our bodies all need similar things nutrition and love being important in the morning. Share with us what your morning routing is.

The Nest – Frisco, TX

We went to breakfast with some friends one Saturday morning to try out The Nest in Frisco. We chose them purely based on their Instagram pics, yes we do that! We had a great experience. I will say that it is a small space with limited seating, especially at peak times.

We were able to get a table after a nice family left. We enjoyed lattes and all had different breakfast options. My fried egg sandwich was delicious and the lavender honey latte was to die for. I will be back for sure. Each of our plates looked beautiful and the options were unique making it even more fun. The adorable atmosphere and convenient location made for an easy trip too.

What are you favorite coffee shops or cafes?

Exploring Downtown McKinney

Before we relocated to McKinney I heard about the adorable down town area. So I looked it up on Instagram and began following to learn about the shops, restaurants and happenings. The photos looked so inviting and I couldn’t want to get out and walk around. What a perfect time too? The holiday season makes everything better. We went one evening and got coffee and walked around looking at the lights.

They really did a great job decorating for the holidays and all the shops had window displays. They do a contest to vote for the best and I couldn’t choose, I think I voted for like 7 of them! They all were so beautiful and creative. We read some of the menus and took note of some restaurants we want to try.

About a week later I was able to meet a friend and try one of the cute places. We went to Layered. I loved the decor and wall coverings, the textures and calm vibe was really welcoming. I had a almond milk latte and my friend and I chatted for awhile. I had to get back to work so I didn’t eat but I can’t wait to go back. The service was great and it would be a quick place to run in a grab a coffee or tea on the way to work or meeting as well.

House Happenings

I feel like I am still catching up on here with what has been going on the past couple of months so here are some random things happening in my house.

I had my dad here for a few days and he was able to share his handy skills and put up a new ceiling fan for me in our living room. I have been wanting this since we moved in. Oddly enough I have maybe used it twice since, but hey this weather has been crazy here in Texas. I mean we even had snow! Which I love, love, love, yes I love snow. It is one of the things I miss most about moving south. He also taught me about our sprinkler system, yes I am just now learning about this. He showed me how to set it and change everything, all of my zones and we checked all the sprinkler heads. I still have a long list of other things for him to do so he can come back anytime.

I have noticed I have a serious addiction to coffee. Oh it’s real! I follow so many coffee shops on instagram it’s like all I see. I could drink it all day long, hot or cold, latte, black, with cream, it really doesn’t matter. Just give me all the coffee! This morning I didn’t have to get up early but my husband got up early and went to the gym and woke me up saying he had Starbucks but I didn’t have to get up yet, um no worries I wake up for Starbucks!

Fresh flowers in our house are a new thing I love as well, I can blame my husband for this. No complaints here though. Now I just need to grab a bundle every time I am at the grocery store. I just like to look at them, it brightens my day and makes me forget every other plant in my house is dead. 🙂

One of my favorite past times is walking our dogs. Lately the weather has been hindering this activity so when I get a chance I take them out. They love it and it exhausts them, if only they would stop pulling on the leash, any tips? They also take any chance they can to be mischievous but it keeps me on my toes.

The hubs loves a cigar now and then, since we aren’t stocked up at home we tried out a cigar bar around here. It was something different, also just holding the cigar for the pic, never had one. The one we went to had poker games going on as well and a great bar. It was fun to try something new. Do you like cigars?

I will post every now and then a quick overview of our house happenings. What do you want to know?

Treats

How do you treat yourself? I am a firm believer that everyone once in a while we have to focus on ourselves and do something just for you. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, although I am not against that, but even small things can just bring you back to focus and change the day.

Some of the things I love to do is, you guess it, get a coffee, make my favorite food, get organized and make to do lists (not for everyone) and just spend time with my dogs watching TV or reading a magazine.

None of these are crazy or out of the ordinary but they are for me. They make me smile, they make me feel better, they can turn my day around if it’s going badly. It is truly the little things in life that are worth it all. Focus on you.

What are you favorite go to treats for yourself?

Travel

Lately I took some time to travel with my husband for his job and then I went on a work trip. You will see the coffee addiction I mentioned in a previous post, well it’s still alive and kicking. I am no complaining though.

I really like to go new places and see new things, no matter if it’s for work or pleasure. I like to work hard and play hard. I also see different aspects of the place we are going when it’s work related. I go places I would never think to go.

Do you travel for work? Do you like it?
