Check In

Can you even believe we are half way through 2018? I really can’t. This year has really posed many challenges for me mentally and physically. I have encountered things I never imagined would be a part of my life, good and bad. I have had moments I wish never happened and moments I wish could last forever. Our lives change everyday and sometimes we need to take a moment and check in with ourselves and what is really going on.

So here is my check in.

This year I wanted to focus on my mental health. I have taken several steps to that, I have tried therapy, attend church regularly, use essential oils, read more, focus on my sleep schedule, stay active and try to communicate more effectively. Each one of these things helps with my mental focus/personal stability. I am in no way perfect at any of these. I don’t attend therapy regularly and I don’t think I will at this time. I have had some Sundays that I just couldn’t get out of bed. I stay up to late. I focus on the negative. I skip a workout (yes I do that too!) I am here to tell you that it’s hard. It is hard for all of us.

I do notice a difference however and trying is half the battle. Everyday I truly wake up with a positive attitude and a feeling of new opportunity. Some days this lasts longer than others. lol I keep my to do lists with me at all times to help keep me focused on my day and I include the fun stuff on that list to so I make sure to make that time for myself. I have had some days when I finished it all, with some extra and had time to spare. Other days I look at the list and wonder what did I do today?

However last year I wasn’t doing a lot of these things and I really think my mental focus and health has improved. Waking up each day happy and ready for the day is a huge benefit. Don’t let your small mistakes take your focus off the change you want to create. If you fall one day that’s ok, try again the next. Nothing changes in the an instant. It’s all a process.

January

January I have been doing all morning workouts and it has been great. I plan to keep this schedule up. I do spinning, barre, yoga and strength training. This allows me more time after work for spending time doing other things or use my home gym in the afternoons.

Spinning is something I started doing in October when I first visited B Well Health & Fitness, here in Boerne, it always leaves me sweaty and feeling great. Each class is different and challenging. Barre is a great class that really isolates muscles that can change your shape. Every time I feel like I find a new muscle that leaves me shaking. I love it, if you haven’t tried a Barre work out you really need to. It is low impact and a great class to start your fitness journey.

Yoga is one of my favorite things that allows me to focus on my breath and really stretching my muscles. I am always surprised at the poses and balance I have. I am really trying to get some more advanced poses under my belt, so here’s to practice.

Strength and weights are something that is a push for me. I don’t have the most upper body strength so using the weights to really push my arms, shoulders and back. I can really see a difference in my shoulders and arms when I look in the mirror so hopefully with consistency the changes will continue.

New Year

Another year over and another new beginning. I have always set New Year’s Resolutions and this year is no different, however this year they are focused on mind and soul. I am focused on attending church regularly, spending time with the people who mean the most to me, being positive and living life to it’s fullest.

Health is more than just a number on a scale or food you are eating. You have to focus on your mental health as well and this is my focus for the year.

We enjoyed a nice dinner out for the last day of 2017 at J Alexander. This was our first time at this restaurant and we had a very nice experience. The Service was wonderful and the food was yummy. I had the salmon and he had a steak, of course.

I am looking forward to what 2018 has in store of me. I am hopeful for positive change and mindful awareness. What are your goals or resolutions for the year?
