If you follow me on social media you know I have some news and that is why I haven’t been posting recently. I am very excited to say that after 6+ years, many surgeries, medications, countless tests and too many shots to count we are expecting our first child! I cannot explain how amazing this is and how literally since the news it has changed me in so many ways.
I was so extremely excited but after about five minutes I was overcome with fear. Fear of what would happen next, would I be able to carry the baby long enough to birth a sweet new baby? I still have this sense of fear that can be debilitating at times. After everything we have gone through I am almost waiting for the bad news. We are now in our second trimester and all the test have shown a healthy baby. I could not be more grateful to the team of doctors who have gotten me to this point and who will continue to care for us through the next months and years to come.
Over the next months I will continue to share our journey and I will go back to the beginning and share how it all started and when we did our embryo transfer. I have enjoyed sharing our fertility struggles and all the questions I get. So many people have struggles and getting through it is scary and lonely.
I am so happy to share with you and feel free to ask questions.
I was so excited for my FabFitFun box to arrive! Every time I open a box I get so excited to try the new products and see what fun surprises are in store. The boxes have introduced me to so many brands and products that have become staples in my home.
Here’s what was in my box!
Unplug Meditation Aromatherapy Diffuser: I love the egg shape and the fun wave of light colors as it’s on. It puts off a great amount of scent throughout a large space. Currently it’s working perfect in my home office because it uses a USB plug so very portable and easy to use anywhere.
Korres Wild Rose Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Facial: The smell of this cream is divine. I also love the glass container, perfect for recycling. The product is used to even out skin, repairs fine lines, moisturizes and reduces black spots/discolorations. I love a night cream because who doesn’t want to wake up with better skin. The company also really cares about the ingredients in their products.
Giadzy Copper Plated Measuring Spoons: I was so excited about these. I have been wanting new measuring spoons. I love the copper look and the quality is great. The ring is very easy to take a spoon on and off for use BUT they are hand wash only!
THE2BANDITS Athens Necklace: I have really been in to simple necklaces I can layer with others in my collection and this will fit in perfectly. The bar has an iridescent color changing piece that makes it match any outfit you could want to wear this with.
Tula Purifying Face Cleanser: Washing my face is one of my favorites parts of the morning and I am very intrigued by the use of probiotics. This is a cruelty free product and is ingredient conscious. The probiotics are said to help gently remove dirt and lock in moisture. I can’t wait to find out
Manna Kadar Champagne Body Scrub: This is a huge jar of body scrub first of all! It has charcoal and dead sea minerals to give a gently body scrub removing dead skin cells. This will give your body a refreshed skin glow.
Ouai Leave in Conditioner: The smell of this product is also amazing. The first think I always do is smell my stuff, who knows why. This is to smooth, soften, detangle hair and protect against heat damage. I am also a huge fan of Jen Atkin.
Over the next few weeks as I use the products more and more I will share additional thoughts on how they work and what I will keep using. Let me know what you are most excited about.
Do you know what Blue Light is? Do you know it is staring you in the face right now? Blue light comes from our computers, cell phones, tablets and TVs. So all that screen time is producing this blue light right into your eyes.
Blue light is a color in the visible light spectrum that can be seen by human eyes. Blue light is a short wavelength, which means it produces higher amounts of energy.
Some of the effects of blue light are needed for our health
- Boots alertness
- Helps memory and cognitive function
- Elevates mood
- It regulates circadian rhythm – the body’s natural wake and sleep cycle
- Early studies show a deficiency in blue light exposure could contribute to the recent increase in myopia/nearsightedness.
It’s not all good though, here are some of the negative effects
- Too much exposure to blue light late at night (through smart phones, tablets, and computers) can disturb the wake and sleep cycle, leading to problems sleeping and daytime tiredness
- Can decrease contrast leading to digital eye strain
- Dry eyes
- Retina Damage
I work all day at a computer screen and am on the phone in the evenings so I am exposing my eyes to blue light a majority of the day. I have noticed my eyes get very irritated in the afternoon and evenings. My contacts dry out quickly and my headaches are increasing. I can’t really reduce my computer time since it is my job but I am trying to take breaks to look away from the screen and reduce surfing on my phone.
I also got some blue light glasses. These lenses are not prescription and are yellow tinted to block the blue light. I got mine from Diff Eye Wear, but you can get them from many companies or have it added to your prescription lenses. I chose Diff because for each pair of glasses purchased they donate a pair of reading glasses to someone in need. The quality is great and the styles are super cute.
Think about your blue light exposure!
I want to talk about serving size and nutrition labels on food. Do you read the label before you eat the food? Do you look on the front for labels or “low this”, “no that” wording?
Serving Size is defined as a standard amount of food. So in reality all of us have a different serving size for different foods. BUT when we are shopping these packages are providing nutrition information for a specific serving size for that food. Don’t just skip to the numbers or percentages because you are missing the most important part of the label.
One of the big tricks you will see is that the front of the package will say 50% less fat, or 50% less sodium and so on. Well guess what they did, they simply changed the serving size. They cut it in half and bam 50% less whatever it says! Don’t fall for this. Look at the serving size and think to yourself when I eat this am I going to eat a cup, 10 pieces or more? This will help you understand really how much sugar, protein, sodium, calcium etc you are getting in that food.
(Not saying this product did that just an example of the attraction on the front)
Next I always go from serving size to ingredients list. Are the ingredients real food or chemicals, dyes or things I just don’t know what they are. This lets me decide if I want to purchase it or not. I am not perfect in anyway and I purchase processed foods but I try to limit them and I choose the option that works best for me based on the ingredients. You will also learn a lot about companies and which brands you feel more comfortable putting in your body.
After looking through the ingredients list I then go back up to the top and focus on sugar and sodium first, then the other nutrients from the item. I want foods that are low in synthetic sugar and safe amounts of sodium. I want foods high in vitamins and minerals.
Next time you are in the grocery store read the labels before you buy and you make just make some different choices. Compare the front claims to the nutrition label and ingredients to see if that clever marketing is fooling you.
Since moving to McKinney my morning routine has changed in many ways. I no longer have to commute into an office for work, I work remote in my home office, so it has allowed for some changes.
I cannot get up without 8 legs running in front of me down the stairs so that is actually the first thing I do, let the dogs out and feed them, after all they are more important than anyone else in the house. Once I feed them I make my one cup of coffee for the day, ugh only one cup I know but I am trying to cut back my caffeine intake. I get asked a lot too but I drink my coffee black or with a splash of almond milk. (Most of the sugar and unnecessary calories are in the creamer/sugar so cut it out)
After my cup of coffee I go back upstairs and brush my teeth to try my best to keep that coffee color off my teeth. I also wash my face and put on my collagen cream & vitamin c oil. Then it’s back to the kitchen for an 8oz glass of green juice and vitamins. I do not have a juicer so I get pre made juices, I have tried many different brands and I just make sure that the ingredients are all fruits & vegetables, no concentrates or fake stuff. As I am drinking my green juice I am working in my office and getting a plan set out for the day with my to do list.
I normally have a smoothie, cereal, yogurt or bar for breakfast. My breakfast is usually a smaller mean because the juice really does fill me up for awhile. After the juice it’s water water water for the rest of the day.
This is my morning routine and I love it. I love it because my body knows what to expect and keeping a routine has really changed my skin, hair, nails and digestion. It keeps everything smooth and regular, my skin has never looked better. A routine is not only great for physical health but also mental health. It keeps me moving and my body going.
I asked other people what the 3 must dos are for them every morning and I loved the responses here were some of them
- Wash face
- Check the weather
- Drink water
- Watch the news
- Drink a shake
- Feed pets
Its kinda of fun to see that so many people have similar routines or needs in the morning. It also makes me see even more how our bodies all need similar things nutrition and love being important in the morning. Share with us what your morning routing is.
I love to try new workouts and gyms well, R&G Fitness was really outside of my comfort zone. It is group fitness that focuses on weights and dynamic movements with cardio mixed it. The focus of form and pushing your limits is amazing. I enjoy what the coach’s give me form critiques or edits because I can’t always see what I am doing and form only enhances the benefits of working out.
I don’t always push myself on my own as hard as I should with the amount of weight I use but R&G sure does and I love it. It gave me that boost of confidence that I can lift that 25lb weight. Maybe not for many reps but I can do it.
The class has a warm up and then breaks into groups to rotate though different stations and then you come back together at the end for a stretch. I love that it is different every time focusing on all muscle groups and pushing you forward. Every person I met was welcoming, kind and supportive of each other weather it was a first time or a seasoned vet at the gym. Everyone cheers for each other and really helps to motivate you to do more.
You can download their app and get a free trial but trust me you are going to want to stay a member! I can’t wait to go back for more, even if I can’t feel my arms! 🙂
February is a month of celebrating for us; Valentine’s Day, Anniversary and my Birthday. I love it but I am not sure what my husband thinks lol. I enjoy taking time to celebrate the relationships in my life and ours is one I treasure.
For Valentine’s Day we went to Randy’s Steakhouse. It is located in Historic Downtown Frisco is a historic home built in 1869. There are private dining rooms for parties and a lounge perfect for any happy hour. Our service was great and the food delicious, it is a great spot for any celebration or date night. Celebrating our Anniversary we went to Perry’s Steakhouse also located in Frisco near Stonebriar Mall. We love Perry’s their food is amazing and the service is always outstanding. For our Anniversary they made us feel extra special with rose petals on the table and a sweet desert. Another great place to celebrate any occasion or just a night out. My Birthday dinner was another amazing treat planned by my sweet husband. We headed over to Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, located in Plano, and the food was so good I really can’t explain. We had a bacon appetizer that was mouthwatering, literally a large piece of bacon in a glaze sauce that I would eat everyday if I could. The service is unmatched with personal touch from the birthday card they gave me, signed by the staff, to each person introducing themselves and ensuring your experience is perfect from beginning to end. This is a must for anyone so make your reservation today https://delfriscos.com/
I do NOT need all these fancy dinners by any means but once in a while it is fun to celebrate us and enjoy some delicious food. Which is your favorite?
