House Happenings

We have been needing a new HVAC system for the upstairs of our house for some time. We knew the unit we had was too small and that meant our master bedroom got very little air. It also would run more than necessary because it was too small for the space.

Finally we decided to bite the bullet and get it done before the crazy hot summer of Texas. We have been using One Hour Air to do our semi annual services and we went with them for our new system as well.

I was able to get a great price and they started putting the new system in the next day. The speed was great! The professionals who came to do the install were so respectful of our home and belongings. They took great care to do the job carefully and correctly. They took out all the old and our new system is so big and shiny lol. The immediate improvement of air flow was amazing. We actually feel air in our master bedroom now and my husband isn’t complaining daily (about that) haha.

They also did a duct cleaning that got out so much nasty stuff ewwwww. The prior owners of our home really thought they could DIY a lot of things and they didn’t care for the prior system properly. Never used filters and let the coil get caked in dirt. I mean ewwwwww why? So now that we have the new system upstairs and all the clean ducts we can really tell a difference in the amount of dust in the bedrooms and the unit runs less and works better.

So happy but I still hate that kind of investment because of the money. I am cheap and home projects like that are just so vital but costly. Definitely maintain your homes properly and if you don’t know what you are doing I do not recommend DIYing. haha

Vacuum

You know I love love love to vacuum and clean our floors. I do something everyday to clean the floors. With 2 dogs, 2 adults and a little one the floors are always a mess. There is dog hair, my hair, food, outside debris and who knows what else.

I have a Roomba and I run it when I can but honestly not really impressed. It’s so loud and goes to the same spots over and over. But it helps where it does go. I have a carpet shampooer and highly recommend you getting one. This thing is amazing! It picks up so much and leaves the rugs fluffy and like new. I try to do this about once a month but lately I haven’t had time. I have the Bissel Pet Pro. I also have a regular vacuum but I need a new one. This one is like 10 years old and just doesn’t do as much any more.

I recently added a Black and Decker hand vacuum and I love it. It was $18 on Amazon and is so helpful for inside cabinets, drawers, under furniture, walls, stairs, furniture and so much more. I love this thing. Its battery powered and comes with the charger. It’s very light weight and picks up so much. Definitely something to add to your cleaning collections.

What is your favorite floor cleaner?

Being Active

Getting back to a real structure of working out has been difficult. I really can’t find the time. It’s not an excuse but work has been overwhelmingly busy, sleep is hard to come by, early mornings are a daily thing but with the babe. SO when I find 10 minutes I take it.

There are so many workout videos online you can watch for FREE, tons on Instagram, lots of workouts on Pinterest, and so much more. So I will never let finances be a reason not to work out. I know I am so cheap.

When I find my window the past month I have been really good about taking it to do a quick video or workout. I try to walk when the weather allows (The Babe loves to be outside) You can also find me randomly doing squats, lunges, pushups, and planks throughout the day. I am telling you just do what you can when you can.

I have seen a difference, not that I am going to lose a ton of weight and that is NOT my goal. I feel fine with any number but I feel flabby so I just want to tone my muscles again. I also am working to retrain my ab muscles since my c-section. It has been very difficult to regain those core muscles and I do have a little pudge there. It’s no longer flat. I am ok with that as long as I feel strong. I am focusing on pulling those muscles in as much as I can throughout the day.

I will be sharing my favorite free workouts soon so be on the look out!

Cleaning Products

I am so excited to tell you about the new cleaning product we recently changed to. BUT first let me tell you why we changed. I was so tired of having a film left all over the counter tops after cleaning. I am just over always re buying and re buying and then having all these bottles of stuff. The strong smells, dry hands, and money. I could go on but these are the main reasons.

I did a ton of research and there are so many options out there. I compared ingredients, price, reviews and word of mouth. I mean this took forever lol. I ended up deciding on Branch Basics. It is a safe product and the concentrate makes all the cleaning products you need including laundry! It is fragrance free and has lots of buying options. You can get an entire kit or just the concentrate.

I got just the concentrate and then purchased glass bottles on Amazon because they were much less cost wise. As you know I am all about the bottom dollar! (aka cheap) I got the concentrate last week and immediately started cleaning. It was very easy to mix and cleans amazingly. There was no residue left behind, no crazy smell, my hands were dry and this bottle is going to last forever!

I have cleaned glass, counter tops, floors, bathtubs, toilets, windows, stainless steel and so much more. All came out perfect! It’s safe to use around my sweet girl and eliminates all the clutter of cleaning supplies.

I had previously switched to microfiber for dusting and floors so now we have eliminated even more waste.

I highly recommend you giving this a try! You will love it.

Workout Videos / Tip

This week I have been having so much fun doing dance workouts during my lunch break. Nothing crazy just 15 minutes but they really get you. My shoulders and calves are so sore. It also really helps boost my mood and takes me back to my younger dancing days.

A lot of people have been asking what videos I am doing. Well here is my tip/hack go to YouTube and search dance cardio workout or dance workout. I then look through the results for time and music or style of dance and pick what jumps out to me.

These are free and super fun. I have found several that I really like and tend to go back to. I also started following those specific accounts for additional workouts. Below are some of my favorites.

This one was tough but so fun!

This one is focused on legs!

Love this music

These are just a few. Try them and tell me what you think!

Favorite Holiday

February is my favorite month for many reasons, one of them being Valentine’s Day! It is my favorite holiday. A lot of people ask me why and well it’s simple. I enjoy celebrating love!

It doesn’t have to be couples only. I love so many people in my life and I enjoy celebrating them and our relationships. Lifelong friendships that have lasted my cross country moves, family that is there no matter what, people I have met along my journey that impacted me even if for a short time, new friendships that are growing even in these crazy times, and so much more.

I don’t like when people say it’s just a made up holiday. Well are all these relationships and people you love made up? Absolutely not! Every relationship we have is for a reason, short or long. I am going to do what I can this week to celebrate them all.

You never know what just a simple message can do for someone’s day, week, month, or year! You can impact people with a simple hi, hello, how are you, I miss you, I hope you have a great day, I love you, and so much more. Take this opportunity to focus on all the love in your life no matter where it comes from.

Master Bedroom

I shared on Instagram the other day that we finally got a new bed in our Master Bedroom. This was 2 years in the making, because if you don’t know I am the cheapest person. We have moved 4 times with the previous bed and loved it, but they aren’t made to move that much. Each time it got a little worse until we moved to our current home just over two years ago.

We were asleep one night and all of a sudden we hear a huge cracking noise and our heads fall about a foot below our feet. It was hilarious but in the middle of the night not so much. One of the base pieces had cracked in half. That really should have been the moment we got a new bed, but instead I felt I could fix it. I went to Home Depot and made my own slats. It was actually really easy. That would work for a bit but every couple months we would have to take the mattress and box spring off and reset them and fix them because they weren’t actually made for the bed.

During this 2 year period I finally also gave in and got a new mattress and box spring. Our mattress was 10 years old and was the cheapest thing I could find when we bought it new so it wasn’t the greatest quality but it was never meant to last 10 years. I made it last though lol During all these moves the box spring also broke somewhere inside and was so noisy if you even took a deep breath. Looking back this is all just so funny to me.

I seriously couldn’t sleep most night because if you moved it was like a concert of noises lol

So we did it, we gave in and got a new bed. We looked at several stores but ended up back at Nebraska Furniture Mart. They have a huge selection at all price points, plus you can pick up the same day you purchase. (They do have delivery) We got ours on a close out deal and absolutely love it. It really brightened up our room by eliminating such a large piece of dark wood.

We have gotten our last several pieces at Nebraska Furniture Mart and each time has been a great experience. We recommend.

Schedule Changes

Recently we have had some big changes around here. Our work schedules are a little different now that my husbands work location has changed. His commute is longer so that cuts into even more time. It’s leaving me a little stressed out, I feel like now so much more is on my shoulders that he was doing to help us.

I am so much more exhausted by the end of the day now, I have no clue how single parents to it. I give them so much applause. We also don’t have family near by to help out either. Don’t get me wrong I love every second of being a mom and I still tear up looking at her and remembering all the work that went into creating this little miracle. But back to topic….There is so much that happens in a day, so here is my current run down. Keep in mind this in only day 3 so we are still working it out.

5am-6am Baby and Mama wake up

6am-7am Getting baby ready, Mama and Dada also getting ready, packing lunches, playing trying to keep her happy while multi tasking

7am-7:45am Taking Babe to school and getting back home

7:45am-4:30pm Work (yes I have a full time job, I work from home but it’s a full day just like in an office) When I get a moment for a break I try to do laundry, vacuum, empty the dish washer, take care of the dogs, find a moment to eat, and attempt to pick anything up.

4:30pm-5:30pm Pick up Babe and get back home to start dinner

5:30pm-7:00pm Cook dinner, play, eat dinner, play, Dada comes home, play, eat, play, and get ready for bedtime.

7:00pm-9:00pm Put babe to bed, dishes, clean up kitchen, laundry, put things away, take care of dogs, try to take a moment for myself/sit, maybe have an adult conversation and the pass out to do it all again.

REPEAT. I am tired just typing that lol I am thankful for our lives and support our decisions but sometimes I feel very judged and like I haven’t done enough. There is always so much left to do and so much I feel like I should have done. I feel like no matter what I do I have failed at something. I am hoping as time goes on I adjust a little better and can get a moment to feel ok.

We all need to have a little grace with each other and not put this crazy pressure. I look at others and think man how did they do that, they make it look easy. I have no clue what they really go through so I shouldn’t compare. We all have our struggles and right now this is one of mine. Fingers Crossed I rest up tonight!

2021 Goals

Here are my 2021 Goals.

  1. Focus on my overall mental & physical health by committing to 3 workouts a week minimum, being active daily, enjoying what I eat by focusing on healthy choices but not depriving myself, and taking time to allow myself to do something for me.

2. Family is my number one priority and I am going to take more time to spend with family near and far. Not allowing things to get in my way and making it happen no matter what.

3. Financial planning is something I have really been working on over the years. I have met goals in the past of paying off student loans and cars so now I want to meet with a financial planner and look to our future with a more aggressive plan to meet our family goals.

4. Support those around me the way I want to be supported. People go through a lot that no one ever knows about, we all put on a pretty picture for the world but we don’t know what is really going on. I want to give the support to my friends and family that I have needed when no one knew. I want to focus on checking in and being there no matter what.
